God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. - Psalms 46:1
Years ago we moved into our house while it was still under construction. It was framed and sided, had insulation, heat, electricity, one working bathtub and one toilet. Beyond that, everything else was yet to be completed: walls, flooring, ceilings, railings and kitchen—all the good stuff.
One chilly morning, after seeing my family off to school and work, I stepped out onto our deck for a quiet moment in the fresh air. Quickly deciding it was too cold, I turned to go back inside and realized at once the outer door handle had not yet been installed. I was locked out! No nearby neighbors, no cell phone in hand, and still dressed in my pajamas, I stood gazing over the deck’s edge to the ledge rock below—a harrowing fifteen foot drop!
Shivering and perplexed, I asked God to help me. No sooner had the words left my mouth than I noticed a construction rope hanging from my roof. I gathered my nerve, gave the rope a tug for safety and painstakingly lowered myself over the deck’s edge and all the way to the ground.
Not every difficult situation has a safety rope solution, but God is with us in all of our predicaments. He is ready to help and willing to provide. And, no matter the outcomes and results of our trials, He is there to see us through. God Himself is always our lifeline of hope.
