You Are God's Masterpiece

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. - Ephesians 2:10

I recently heard a story about Michelangelo, the outstanding Renaissance artist whose many works include the painting of the Sistine chapel and the sculpted statue of David. It is said that before he even picked up his chisel to begin a sculpture he would stare at the block of marble in front of him until he could clearly envision the finished piece in its entirety. Then, he would begin to remove the excess debris, bit by bit, until the masterpiece within was revealed.

God works much the same way in our lives. He sees the masterpiece He created us to be—all our beauty, our uniqueness, our personalities, our abilities, and our potential. And, as we surrender our lives to Him, He slowly chips away the debris—the unnecessary things that hinder—our fears, insecurities, bitterness, wrong beliefs, sin, addictions and the like. In the hands of the Master Artist, being sculpted and shaped in His loving care, we begin to take the form of the people we were meant to be and the masterpiece within us is unveiled.

A CLOSING PRAYER

God, thank you for creating the person that I am and for seeing all that I can yet become. I gladly let go of those things that hold me back and I ask that you continue to mold me to be more like you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
