Our Source of Truth

If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. - John 8:32

Living in the age of information, we have unlimited access to data, knowledge and opinions through technology like never before—an entire world of resources at our fingertips! Scientists today have found that the average person takes in as much as 74 gigabytes of information daily through computers, TV, billboards, cell phones, etc. We now process in a day the equivalent of what someone 500 years ago would process in a lifetime! It’s no wonder we’re often overwhelmed!

The question is, how do we sort through this information overload and guard against becoming jaded, hardened or otherwise negatively affected? How do we cut through false ideologies and misleading agendas? The answer is found in the Bible. It is the living Word of God—our source of truth—the standard by which all other information is measured.

God’s Word offers us real—not relative—truth. It gives us sound guidance for our relationships, our decisions, our attitudes, our finances, our future and our worldview. It provides authentic perspective through the lens of God’s perfect wisdom. Most importantly, the Bible reveals the immeasurable love of God through His Son, Jesus—where we can find peace and rest from the constant cyclone of unending information.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

We are blessed to live in an age of such great resources. But we must compare prevailing ideas of the times to scripture to see for ourselves if they are in alignment. At the end of the day, this accountability gives us the clarity we need to stand firmly on the Word of God, knowing that we are standing on the side of truth.
