Eyes on Jesus

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

Isaiah 26:3

I love the story of Jesus walking on water. His disciples are in a boat, trying to cross the Sea of Galilee amidst some sizable winds and waves when they perceive a ghost walking towards them on the water. When Jesus calms their fear by revealing Himself, Peter calls out and Jesus invites him to come. Peter boldly steps out of the boat and walks on the water towards Him—until he doesn’t. The minute Peter takes his eyes off Jesus and looks around at the difficulty of his circumstances—the strong winds and waves—fear grips hold of him and he begins to sink.

How often do we set out in faith, intending to completely trust Jesus with our impossible situations only to end up sinking into fear when we take our eyes off Him? It’s so easy to let the winds and waves of our own storms distract us from the One who is truly in control.  Fortunately for Peter, Jesus reached out, grabbed him and brought him to safety. Jesus is always our lifeline, always our anchor of security, always our way through life’s storms. Let’s tether our faith to him and fix our eyes there as well.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS

This week, whatever challenges you’re facing, call out to God in prayer. He is ready to take you by the hand through whatever difficulty you are dealing with—even the fiercest storm. Don’t waver in trusting Him to provide what you need. He is more than able to bring you through this and He loves you more than you can imagine.
