God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. - 1 Corinthians 1:9
Years ago I assisted in a junior high Sunday School class. One Sunday morning, the teacher set out to demonstrate how trust works. He assembled the students into several circles and instructed them to take turns, one by one, stepping into the center. Then, with legs stiff and arms folded across their chest, they were to fall backwards in an act of trust and be caught by their fellow students. One teen after another participated and was relieved when their fall resulted in a safe catch.
When my turn arrived, I followed suit and allowed myself to fall back in complete trust until I felt my body crash to the floor! No one had caught me! Fortunately, I was physically alright. My feelings, however, were deeply hurt. I like to think it was an unintentional miscue between students, but nonetheless my trust had been completely betrayed.
People can and sometimes do let us down. When trust is broken it can leave us emotionally shattered and intensely wounded. But God never breaks a promise. His Word is rock solid. He is as reliable as the rising sun. He never gives up on people. He never fails to be present. When we trust in God, we can have complete confidence that when we fall into His care and guidance He will always catch us with His strong arms. God never fails. He is faithful and worthy of our trust.
CLOSING PRAYER
Thank you, God, that you are completely worthy of my trust. Build my faith with greater trust in You and help me rely on you fully in all the situations I face.
