But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but I give you what I have; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” - Acts 3:6
Peter and John were headed to the temple to pray when they encountered a lame man sitting at the entrance. Disabled from birth, begging was this man’s lot in life. As Peter and John approached, the man asked for money. Peter had none. But, looking intently at the man and seeing his need, Peter realized he had something of value he could give through the power of the Holy Spirit. “Stand up and walk,” Peter said. And with that, the man was instantly healed.
Sometimes we feel ill-equipped to do things of significance—things that will make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Maybe, like Peter, our pockets are empty. Maybe we feel limited by our age, our education, or our abilities. But we are never so empty-handed that we have nothing to give. Perhaps we have time or insight or an encouraging word. When we give what we have in the name of Jesus, there’s no telling how God may use it. There’s no telling what a difference it may make.
What has God given you that can bless others? Let’s not be quick to focus on what we lack. But, like Peter, let’s take time to see the needs around us and recognize what we’ve been given to share. God can use even our simple acts of service to impact someone in a life-changing way.
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, open our eyes to the needs around us and help us to use the gifts you’ve entrusted us with to serve and bless others wherever possible. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
