Beyond Vision

Outside my studio window, an eagle soars high above the valley, gliding on warm currents of air.  Scanning the earth below with his keen, sharp sight, he can focus on the smallest of animals up to two miles away. His vision exceeds that of humans eight times over. But even such exceptional perception pales miserably in comparison to God’s vision towards you.

He knows the rhythm of your heartbeat, the impressions of your fingerprints, the sequence of your DNA.

Nothing about you is hidden from God. He sees you with perfect clarity through a lens of mercy and love. He is present with you wherever you go. You are never beyond His scope, never out of His sight, never off His mind. Even your inmost being is seen by God—He, Himself is the one that formed you. He knit you together long before your first breath with the vast complexity that makes you who you are. He knows the rhythm of your heartbeat, the impressions of your fingerprints, the sequence of your DNA.

Nothing you do eludes his attention. He has seen you at your best and at your worst. He knows the full spectrum of your quirks and even the patterns of your sleep. He knows the intonations of your voice and has listened to every prayer that has left your lips.

Nothing you experience escapes His awareness. He knows your vulnerable places—the scars you bare and the wounds that are still healing. He knows your victories—even those that have gone unnoticed by others. He has seen every snowflake that has landed on your shoulder and not a single hair falls from your head that he does to notice and count.

Nothing you feel evades His mindfulness. He knows your dreams, your joys, and what makes your heart sing. He understands your fears, your doubts, your struggles and your frustrations. He sees you in your dark and lonely places. Even a single tear that steals its way down your cheek captures His compassionate attention.

There is not a moment of your life nor a breath you have taken that hasn’t been observed, acknowledged and comprehended by your heavenly Father. You are seen. You are heard. You are fully known. You are intimately understood with a depth that compares to no other. And even though you are but a speck on the vast planet Earth—you—yes, you—are important to God. Your life matters. So much so that God extends to you His greatest gift in all of creation…

His Love.

“Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind. You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins.” —Psalm 139:1-4
